A stand out local event for me was certainly the 2013 GNTP Laguna Melbourne Cup event. Why bother with all the hassle & madness in the city when you can pull up your pumpkin coach in a unique Australian setting within the Wollombi Valley? I seriously encourage those thinking of something different this year for Melbourne Cup 2014 to head to Blair Athol Estate Wollombi for a few days and do it like they do in the Valley!
Outstanding team spirit and hospitality, activities, competitions, sweep & draws music and apparently some horse race on the big screen, GNTP had it all last year. The food and service was spectacular and ridiculous value for money, at just $35 a head including bubbles on arrival. Lunch was nothing short of amazing: a fresh from the markets seafood buffet with no lack of loading, quality oysters, prawns, salmon and all the trimmings as a starter followed by a main (I’ll call it country tasting plate) of chicken & prosciutto kieve, mouth watering, perfectly cooked lamb cutlets and pork kebabs, fresh green beans with baked chat potatoes. To seal the deal each table received a beautifully presented rustic breadboard of mixed cheeses, figs, grapes and locally made poppy seed crackers. Well played GNTP…well played!
